On Thursday, Sept 25, prominent Trump critic George Conway tweeted his support for Harry Jarin, Democratic candidate for Maryland’s 5th Congressional District.
Jarin, 35, is a small business owner and volunteer firefighter from Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The seat has been held since 1981 by Steny Hoyer, 86, who has yet to announce whether he will seek reelection.
Conway, founder of several anti-Trump organizations and PACs tweeted, “I support Harry. It's time for new leadership if there is ever to be effective opposition again.”
The tweet includes a link to Jarin’s launch video in which Jarin draws a stark contrast between himself and Hoyer. “Tired politicians like Steny can’t put up the fight that we need,” Jarin notes.
This endorsement from a leading figure in the anti-Trump movement underscores the growing demand for new Democratic leadership in Congress. With a government shutdown and catastrophic Federal layoffs looming, Jarin argues that Maryland’s 5th district needs a representative who recognizes the urgency of the moment. “Republicans think they can run laps around us because our bench hasn’t even made it onto the field,” says Jarin. “The 2026 midterms are our best shot at stopping the Trump agenda, but we need leaders in Congress who can actually put up a fight. George is absolutely right that it’s time for new leadership. It’s time for Steny Hoyer to step aside.”
